Sea Salt Spray Recipe with Aloe and Rosemary

If there is one hair trend in the summer that just never goes out of style, it is having natural beach waves. And I have to admit that I love how my hair looks when it’s all wavy and messy. The way I get this look (short of flying off to the coast and hanging out on the beach all day) is with sea salt spray. It makes your waves look like you just got out of the salty ocean water without having to get sand in all those uncomfortable places. You can get this look too, with this sea salt spray recipe.

Ingredients For DIY Sea Salt Spray

To make your beach wave spray DIY recipe, you first need the basic ingredients. While you might see some other variations on this recipe, the basic ingredients will typically be the same. They include using warm water to dissolve the salt, some sea salt, and a little bit of oil.

Speaking of oil, this is a DIY beach waves spray without coconut oil, which is the oil you see in most recipes. But I’m sensitive to coconut, so I don’t use it. Most oils are moisturizing for your hair, but a few bring a little something extra to the table. I use avocado oil because it hydrates and improves the texture of your hair.

I add a few other things to my recipe as well, like aloe vera for moisture, hair growth, and texture. Essential oils add scent and promote hair health. I’ve added rosemary essential oil to my recipe because of the awesome hair benefits, but you can choose the essential oils you like most. The last thing I add to my beach waves spray recipe is a little vodka to preserve it. Of course, you’ll also need a spray bottle to keep it in. Glass is best, but a BPA-free plastic one is fine too.

Sea Salt Spray Recipe

Ingredients:

1 cup distilled water

1 1/2 Tbsp. Epsom salt

1 Tbsp. avocado oil

1 Tbsp. aloe vera gel

10 drops rosemary essential oil

1 tsp. vodka

Step-by-Step:

  1. In a 2-cup glass measuring cup with a spout, heat the distilled water until it is almost boiling.
  2. Add the Epsom salt to the water and stir occasionally until it is dissolved.
  3. Once the salt is dissolved, let the water cool. (Hot water breaks down essential oils.)
  4. Once cooled, add the avocado oil and aloe vera gel. Stir well.
  5. Add the rosemary oil (uses and benefits) or your essential oil of choice and the vodka and stir again.
  6. Pour the mixture into the spray bottle.
  7. Screw on the spray nozzle and shake well.

How to Use Sea Salt Spray to Get Beautiful Beach Waves

The best way to get that beach-wave look is to use the spray on wet or damp hair, like right after you get out of the shower. Then scrunch your hair up with a towel, or braid or twist your hair into a bun and let dry. As your hair dries, the salt creates those oh-so-desirable waves. You can use it on dry hair, but it works much better when your hair is wet or damp.

So mix up a batch to get that summer hair all year long. You can even make your own signature sea salt spray recipe by using your favorite essential oils to create that perfect scent.
